One team
Our Process
Design, permitting, engineering, fabrication, installation and service, all under one roof.
One Team. From Concept to Completion.
A great sign involves much more than fabrication.
SCA Sign Group brings the entire process together under one roof.
01 — Design
Our in-house design team develops signage around your brand, architecture and project requirements.
02 — Permit & Engineering
We help navigate permitting requirements and coordinate engineering when required.
03 — Fabricate
Your signage is built by experienced fabricators using commercial sign materials, lighting systems and fabrication methods.
04 — Install
Our installation team gets the finished product where it belongs.
05 — Service
When signage needs maintenance or repair, we’re here to keep it looking and performing its best.
You have the brand. We’ll build the sign.
Whether you need one storefront sign or a complete signage package, SCA Sign Group can take your project from an idea on the screen to a finished installation.
Design That Goes Beyond Looking Good
Designed to Be Seen. Designed to Be Built.
Sign design is different from traditional graphic design.
A logo may look great on a computer screen, but turning that logo into a 10-foot illuminated sign requires an understanding of materials, fabrication, lighting, mounting, electrical requirements and the building itself.
Our design team brings those pieces together.
Our design team considers
- Brand Identity — Your signage should accurately represent your logo, colors, typography and overall brand.
- Visibility — We consider viewing distance, traffic patterns, sign placement, letter size and contrast.
- Architecture — Great signage should complement the building and surrounding environment rather than feel like an afterthought.
- Materials — Aluminum, acrylic, vinyl, LEDs, architectural panels and specialty materials all affect how a sign looks and performs.
- Illumination — We determine how lighting can enhance visibility while achieving the desired appearance.
- Fabrication — We design with the finished product in mind so what you approve on paper can be successfully fabricated.
- Installation — Building conditions, mounting methods, electrical access and equipment requirements are considered before the sign reaches production.
From idea to sign: our design process
01 — Discover
We start by understanding your business, brand, location and signage goals.
If you already have established brand standards, we’ll work within them. If you’re starting with an idea, our design team can help develop a signage solution around your space and objectives.
02 — Site Survey
Before finalizing a design, we may evaluate the proposed sign location and existing conditions.
Depending on the project, this can include building measurements, mounting surfaces, existing signage, electrical conditions, access and other information needed for design and installation planning.
03 — Design
Our designers develop sign concepts using your branding, site conditions and project requirements.
Renderings can help you visualize the scale, placement, colors and overall appearance of the proposed signage before fabrication begins.
04 — Revise & Approve
We refine the design based on project requirements, customer feedback, landlord criteria and applicable sign regulations.
Once the design is approved, the project can move into permitting and production planning.
Permitting Without the Guesswork
We Help Navigate the Process.
Sign permitting can be one of the most confusing parts of a signage project.
Requirements vary by municipality, property and sign type. Size limitations, height restrictions, setbacks, electrical requirements, engineering requirements and zoning regulations can all affect what can be installed.
Our permitting team helps navigate those requirements so you don’t have to figure them out alone.
Our permitting services can include
- Sign Code Research — We research applicable municipal sign requirements to help determine what may be permitted at the property.
- Permit Applications — We prepare and submit applicable sign permit documentation to the appropriate permitting authority.
- Required Drawings — Our team prepares drawings and supporting information needed for the sign permit application.
- Landlord & Property Management Coordination — For leased properties, signage may require approval from the landlord or property management company before municipal permitting can move forward. We can work with provided tenant criteria and sign standards to help move the approval process forward.
- Engineering Coordination — When structural or electrical engineering is required, we can coordinate the necessary drawings and documentation with qualified professionals.
- Permit Revisions — If a jurisdiction requests corrections or additional information, we work through those comments and make the necessary updates.
- Permit Tracking — We follow the application through the review process and respond to applicable comments until the permit is approved.
Every property is different
A sign that works at one location may not be allowed at another.
Sign requirements can be affected by:
- Municipal Sign Codes
- Zoning
- Planned Developments
- Property Sign Criteria
- Landlord Requirements
- Existing Signage
- Building Frontage
- Sign Area Allowances
- Setbacks
- Sign Height
- Electrical Requirements
- Engineering Requirements
That’s why we believe permitting should be considered before fabrication begins — not after.
Landlord & Tenant Sign Criteria
Your Brand. Their Property. One Design That Works for Both.
Retail centers and commercial developments often maintain their own signage standards in addition to city requirements.
These criteria may dictate permitted sign types, colors, letter heights, illumination methods, raceways, placement and other design details.
SCA can review the provided criteria and develop signage that represents the tenant’s brand while working within the property’s requirements.
This can be especially valuable for:
- Retail tenants
- Restaurants
- Shopping centers
- Multi-tenant developments
- Property managers
- National brands
- Franchise locations
Engineering & Technical Coordination
Some signage requires engineering based on its size, height, construction, installation method or local requirements.
When required, SCA can coordinate engineering documentation for the project.
This may include structural considerations for:
- Pylon signs
- Monument signs
- Large wall signs
- Sign support structures
- Pole signs
- Specialty fabricated signage
- Certain installation conditions
Why keep design, permitting & fabrication together?
Because fewer handoffs mean fewer opportunities for something to get lost between the drawing and the finished sign.
Our team understands how the sign will be: Designed → Permitted → Fabricated → Installed
That continuity helps create a smoother project from beginning to end.
From concept to approval
- Discovery — Understand your brand, property and signage needs.
- Site Survey — Document the building and existing conditions.
- Design — Create a signage solution around your brand and location.
- Landlord Approval — Coordinate required property-management approvals.
- Permitting & Engineering — Prepare and submit required documentation.
- Approval — Clear the project for fabrication.
- Fabrication — Turn the approved drawings into the real thing.
Have an idea? Let’s turn it into something you can see.
From the first sketch to the final approved permit, SCA Sign Group helps move your signage from concept toward installation.
